Vintage Large Sterling Silver Sugar/Serving Bowl - Substantial
I believe this is sterling given the hallmarks but there is no “sterling impression.”
Was purchased for 5 (still marked) from a reputable dealer.
This is a very substantial bowl -- what the Victorians would have called a sugar bowl as it’s large and would have indicated a wealthy owner as sugar was a valued commodity.
The body has a smooth top with “ribbing.”
Nice handles.
Elevated base.
Dimensions: length - 6.25”, height - 4 1/8”, and depth - 4.25”.
Weight: 10 ounces/284 grams.
Hallmarks: on the outside of the bowl near the top - crown lion L; on the bottom: 437 on one row, a deep “4” on the next, and then a row that is worn off.
