The Roanoke Island or Burnside Expedition was a Union Army amphibious landing on the North Carolina coast February, 1862. An  original issue of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Feb 15, 1862 with front page illus of General Ambrose Burnside & US Navy Commodore Louis M Goldsborough, with maps of the Island showing Union & rebel lines & channel incl Kill Devil Hill. An Original complete issue w 8pp news of the Union Victory, the burning of Elizabeth City, list of Union killed & wounded, Union Units w officers, also more War news incl Fort Donelson. VG, disbound with small edge cuts. The Inquirer was one of the few Civil War papers that routinely showed fine front page illustrations of War events and these illus issues are suitable for framing.
