Description
For sale is a gorgeous sterling silver repoussé two piece set made by Jacobi & Co of Baltimore Maryland. The two pieces consist of a sugar and creamer. The sugar bowl is 1.5" high and 3.75" wide at the top. The creamer 2.25 high and 2" wide at the top.There is a monogram on the bottom that looks like VML. The repoussé work is very beautifully done in a floral motif.
They are both marked Jacobi & Co. MAKERS, BALTIMORE, STERLING 925/1000 FINE.
By the mark used, this set dates to between 1890 and 1894
Troy ounces of the sugar is 3 oz (84 grams)
Troy ounces of the creamer is 2.75 oz (79 grams)

Background:
Jacobi and Co. was established by A. Jacobi in 1879. The Jacobi family had been silversmiths for seven generations. A. Jacobi received his Master's certificate from the silversmith's guild of Brunswick, Germany in 1858. He also held a medal of honor award from the Academie Nationale in Paris. In 1890 the firm became Jacobi & Co, manufacturing sterling silverware and doing a jobbing trade in the large cities of the country. In 1894
A. and W.F. Jacobi
partnered with W. Armour and Talbot Winchester- Jacobi & Jenkins was formed.
