    Description

I am selling a collection of antique chatelaine and jewelry items as seen in the last photo so please see my other offerings and check back!
    ABOUT:
Old and beautiful Victorian Mourning locket pendant or fob.  Raised oval onyx on the cover inset with a gold cross set with iridescent gray seed pearls.
This is an antique piece that I acquired in France from the Belle Epoque period.  Very nice quality typical of the French fabrication of superior gold fill.  It has a beveled glass center frame that flips between the two sides so you could put a photo in one side and a lock of hair or flower in the other.
Beautiful warm antique gold fill color to the metal, in yellow gold fill, and the back of the piece is smooth with a rounded center panel that looks rosy gold filled under magnification compared to the rim and cover.
Chain in photos is not included.
    MARKS:
Has hallmarks on the loop similar to the FIX designer hallmarks found on French gold fill pieces form this era.  I could not make them out exactly but the shape is what they usually all look like.
    MEASUREMENTS:
Locket measures about 1 1/4 inches tall to the top of the bale by 7/8 an inch wide.  3/8 of an inch deep.
    CONDITION:
The hinge is still tight and it opens nicely but I noticed a small gap remains when you close it.  It doesn't "snap" shut.  It does remain closed when shut, so it would be safe to wear with no danger of flying open when you move or anything, but it just doesn't close tightly to the point that you have to pry it open.
The gold fill has really held up well, there are a few areas around the rim that have worn organically to a nice rose gold coloring. The onyx on the cover has a some nicks and two flea bites to the beveled edge, a few surface scratches, mostly visible when studied in a reflection under magnification, I took a photo with the surface in a reflection of light so you would be able to see it.  Some surface wear, scuffs, scratches and nicks to the gold fill but I don't see any deep dings or dents and no chips or cracks to the stone. The onyx is secure in the setting and the seed pearls are not loose.
But due to age, please note this is not a mint condition item.
Still many years left in this old beauty from an interesting period in history.
I dearly love, collect, use and sell antiques so please check out my other listings and thanks so much for stopping by!
