    Description

Our client's pair of antique crackle-glazed pottery vases in the Kashan or Kutahya style
feature teal lobed cartouches in the Persian Safavid period style, parcel gilt decorations, and are distinguished by their finely crafted silver mounts by Emile Puiforcat for Cartier.  6.75 in (17.1 cm) tall.
Each carries the Cartier hallmark, Puiforcat hallmark used since 1857, plus the large French guarantee mark depicting the profile of Mercury in six-sided lozenge, indicating the silver is 950% pure and the pieces were produced for export.  This mark was in use from 1878 through 1973.
There is rubbing wear to the gilded cartouches and other gilded areas on each vase, plus scratches consistent with age.
We believe these may have been produced by Samson, Edme et Ci, founded by Edme Samson (1810-1891), who produced exceptional copies of pottery and porcelain designs from around the world.
