Description
This is a beautifully made mourning hair bracelet that also has a locket clasp - which has a glass top and holds a lock of hair inside. It was customary in the Victorian Era for ladies to table-work hair honor of a loved one. It was a way to remember them by using hair to make jewelry or to hold a lock of their hair. The insertable clasp works very well. The bracelet is doubly secure because it has a stretchy band that is sewn onto the back - which also goes around the wrist. (However - it needs repair as the stretchy material has deteriorated with age.) This is a unique piece of history. The back of the clasp is inscribed with person's name and date of death (which is Jan 24th and looks like the year is /67.)I have recently tested this item and the metal is easily positive for 10K gold. I tested the back of the locket and the findings on the ends of the bracelet. Excellent condition! Original patina - from estate. Please enlarge photos as they are part of the description.
