    This is an original antique issue of The New York Herald newspaper for May 22, 1865.   This is the complete eight page broadsheet format newspaper issued shortly after the end of the Civil War and the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.   This issue is noteworthy for front page articles on the incarceration of Jefferson Davis at Fort Monroe and on the Progress of Events concerning “The Negro”.   This issue has more than a one and half front columns on the front page about “The Negro” including subtitles:
    North Carolina Negroes Petitioning for the Rights of Citizenship
    Negro Suffrage in Tennessee, Florida and Connecticut
    New System of Labor in Virginia
    A Negro Admitted as Witness in Illinois Court
    Emancipated Maryland Slaves Sold in Delaware, &c., &c., &c.
    This newspaper also has a brief article on the back page titled “A Negro Plot” about a riot and fighting in Memphis, Tennessee between white rebel soldiers and African Americans.
